ADVICE YOU CAN COUNT ON
A STRONG UNDERSTANDING OF MUNICIPAL GOVERNANCE, WITH A TECHNICAL BACKGROUND IN CIVIL WORKS AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
My name is Luc Perreault.
I am a Civil Engineering Technologist, Public Works Inspector, former firefighter, husband and proud dad. I have lived and worked in the Sea-to-Sky corridor for the past 15 years. Four years ago, looking ahead to kindergarten, our family chose Squamish to deepen our roots and make our forever home. It was the best decision we ever made.
To my surprise, I am running for Council, because the District of Squamish could be doing a much better job capturing the benefits and mitigating the hardships associated with growth.
I recently engaged with the district for the first time regarding development issues as an impacted resident. My experience was unpleasant to say the least and left me disappointed as a constituent.
Without leadership that knows how to deliver the highest value possible to our residents when development occurs, results will not improve. Because I know how we could do this better, I could not stay on the side-lines any longer. I want to help build a better foundation at municipal hall so our community achieves the prosperity it deserves.
We urgently need to pivot to prioritize core municipal services such as recreation, transportation, municipal servicing and fiscally responsible governance.
My technical understanding of some of the issues we are facing provides me with a unique perspective and I think it’s important to have a technical voice at Council as part of a diverse group representing our interests.
Our issues are complex and multi-layered and will require time and discourse to resolve. If I don’t know something, I will say so, inform myself, and come back with options. The same way we solve problems in the engineering world. I will listen to your concerns, bring them forward to council, and try my very best to achieve resolutions that are practical and in the best interest of the community.

I commit to working collaboratively with council to deliver meaningful results that strengthen our community, reflect the voices of residents, and serve the best interests of everyone who calls this place home. Through collaboration, anything is possible.
I will fight for the resources, leadership, and responsible decision-making needed to deliver real results for residents today and build a stronger future for the generations to come. I believe Squamish deserves a municipal hall that is strong, accountable, and fully equipped to meet the challenges facing our community.
I will ensure my decisions are backed by facts, supported by common sense, and communicated openly so residents can trust the process and feel confident their voices are being respected. Squamish residents deserve transparency, honesty, and clear communication from the people elected to represent them. Through my public service experience in a technical capacity, I understand how important it is to explain not only what decisions are made, but why and how they are made.
PRIORITIES
MUNICIPAL INFRASTRUCTURE
Squamish is growing quickly, and our infrastructure needs to keep pace with the real needs of residents. Roads, parking, sidewalks, trails, utilities, public spaces, and recreation facilities must be planned with both current demand and future growth in mind. I support practical infrastructure planning that improves daily life in Squamish neighbourhoods, balances vehicle access with safer active transportation, and ensures projects are attractive, durable, and financially responsible.
LEADERSHIP, ACCOUNTABILITY & TRANSPARENCY
The next Squamish Council must rebuild confidence in municipal decision-making through accountability, transparency, and plain-language communication. We must choose a new Corporate Administrative Officer that has the skills required to get us on track. Residents should understand how major decisions are made, what they will cost, and how they affect taxes, services, and neighbourhoods. I will support strong administrative leadership at the District, clear expectations and accountability for senior staff, and earlier, more meaningful public engagement so people are not left feeling surprised after decisions have already been made.
RESPONSIBLE DEVELOPMENT
Growth will be one of the defining issues of the 2026 Squamish election. As new housing, commercial projects, and major developments move forward, Council must ensure growth pays its fair share and delivers real community benefits. I will advocate for responsible development, stronger Community Amenity Contributions, better infrastructure coordination, and public spaces and services that support residents of all ages, including families, seniors, workers, and young people trying to build a future here.
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
Squamish is an exceptional place to live, but our community also faces real risks from wildfire, flooding, severe weather, landslides, highway closures, and other emergencies. Emergency preparedness needs to be a visible and ongoing priority for the next Council, not something addressed only after a crisis. I will advocate for continual improvements of our emergency plans, regular testing and public communication, stronger coordination with regional and provincial partners, and investments that improve community safety and resilience.
TRANSPORTATION & HIGHWAY SAFETY
Transportation is a daily issue for Squamish residents, whether they are commuting on Highway 99, travelling within town, getting children to activities, accessing work, or welcoming visitors to the Sea to Sky corridor. The next Council must keep regional transit, parking, active transportation, and highway reliability high on the agenda. I will advocate for practical transportation solutions, stronger provincial coordination on highway safety and closures, and long-term planning that better connects Squamish with Whistler, Vancouver, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, and neighbouring communities.
